TULSA, Okla. –
Cancer patients in northeastern Oklahoma often travel outside their communities for specialized treatment. A new donation announced in Tulsa aims to help change that by supporting an expansion of cancer care services in Green Country.
The Stuart Family Foundation is giving $2 million to help expand the OU Health Stephenson Cancer Center near 41st Street and Yale Avenue in Tulsa.
Donation supports Tulsa expansion plans
OU Health leaders said the expansion is designed to improve access to cancer care across northeastern Oklahoma. Plans for the new Tulsa facility include exam rooms, infusion spaces, imaging services and room for clinical trials.
Hospital officials said the project will allow more patients to receive specialized care closer to home rather than traveling long distances.
Philanthropic support helps project move forward
Dr. Robert Mannel, director of OU Health Stephenson Cancer Center, said community support has played a key role in advancing the project.
“Really, what we relied upon the most is support from the philanthropic community, and that community in Tulsa has come up big. And when we look at the Stuart Family Foundation, they have a long legacy of support and philanthropic arena for Oklahoma, the University of Oklahoma and for Tulsa, an unbelievable legacy that they bring to the table, and this is a natural extension of their passion,” Mannel said.
What comes next?
OU Health said the first-floor café inside the new facility will be named the Stuart Family Foundation Café in recognition of the donation.
Hospital officials said the new cancer center facility is expected to open in spring 2028.
