The investigation began in May after the Johnston County Election Board notified the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office of concerns about voter registration applications in the Mannsville area.
Officials say the registrations were submitted before the voter registration deadline in May to allow voters to vote in June’s primary election.
Investigators say several of the applications had matching signatures, which did not belong to the individuals who were registering to vote.
“As one of Oklahoma’s 77 constitutionally elected Sheriffs, it is our duty and the duty of every Sheriff’s Office in this State to protect the integrity of our elections — one of the most sacred rights of citizens of this country,” said Sheriff Gary W. Dodd.
Authorities traced the applications to Shonda Lou Barnes, the city manager for the Town of Mannsville.
Barnes was arrested on 11 counts of false affidavit in voter registration.
