PAWHUSKA, Okla. — The Osage Nation, City of Pawhuska, and Rural Water District No. 21 have entered an agreement to improve water quality and reliability for residents.
Officials said residents in RWD 21 have been experiencing water outages that have lasted anywhere from a few days to a few months. They have also been under a boil order for the last two years.
“This agreement represents what can happen when neighboring governments work together to address critical infrastructure needs,” said Osage Nation Principal Chief Geoffrey Standing Bear.
Current infrastructure challenges include inadequate service lines and aging water treatment equipment.
The new partnership will allow the Osage Nation, City of Pawhuska, and RWD 21 to work together and pool resources and funding in an effort to improve public health and safety through reliable, safe water access, said officials.
Under the agreement, a new six-inch pipeline will be installed in RWD 21, which will connect the City of Pawhuska master meter to the district’s existing standpipe.
“Reliable access to clean water is essential for our communities, and this partnership creates a strong foundation for long-term sustainability and future growth,” said Chief Standing Bear.
