Woman dies after crossing flooded road near Poteau

POTEAU, Okla. (AP) – The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says a 64-year-old woman has apparently drowned after driving into a flooded crossing in eastern Oklahoma.

Troopers say Vickie Darnell was pronounced dead at the scene Sunday morning after she drove her vehicle into a flooded crossing across Sugar Loaf Creek southeast of Poteau, about 166 miles southeast of Oklahoma City.

The patrol says the victim was apparently traveling alone when her vehicle was swept off the roadway at about 4:30 a.m.
