Voters approve sales tax for County Office Annex, Courthouse remodel

Kay County voters approved a proposition Tuesday calling for a 1/4 of one cent county sales tax for the County Office Annex and to remodel the Courthouse in Newkirk, as well as a 5,000 square feet for the Oklahoma State Extension Office.

Of a total 2,254 votes cast, 1,400 were yes, for the proposition, to 854 no, against the proposition.

Election results are provisional until they are certified on Friday by the State Election Board.

There were 38 absentee ballots; 120 early voting ballots and 2,096 ballots cast on Tuesday at regular polling places.

Kay County has 23,323 registered voters. Fewer than 10 percent voted Tuesday.
