Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins announced Tuesday that President Donald Trump made a move to provide financial relief for American farmers and strengthen the country’s fertilizer supply chain.
“Today, @POTUS signed a proclamation temporarily suspending countervailing duties on certain phosphate fertilizer imports—providing immediate relief to producers while strengthening America’s fertilizer supply chain,” she wrote in a lengthy post on X.
She said that the proclamation will save American farmers $1.82 billion annually and would benefit over 100,000 farms.
Rollins also criticized the Biden administration for how it handled fertilizer prices and its impact on farmers.
“Under the Biden Administration, fertilizer prices surged to record highs—rising roughly 40% overall, with some nutrients nearly doubling at their peak,” Rollins said. “Since January 2025, fertilizer markets have improved significantly, with urea down 58%, potash down 54%, and ammonia down 40% from Biden-era highs.”
Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. praised Trump for signing the proclamation.
“President Trump knows we can’t Make America Healthy Again without America’s farmers,” he wrote on X. “That’s why he signed an Executive Order directing @HHSGov, @USDA, and @EPA to scale regenerative agriculture to strengthen American farm resilience, rebuild soil health, reduce input costs, improve farm profitability, expand export markets, and support rural economies.”
