For the 34th year, letter carriers across Oklahoma will collect food donations along their routes on Saturday, May 9 as part of the National Association of Letter Carriers’ Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive, presented by OG&E and American Fidelity. These donations will benefit the Regional Food Bank and its network of community-based partners.

Oklahoma residents will receive plastic donation bags in their mailboxes the week of May 4. Residents are encouraged to fill the donation bag, or any plastic bag, with non-perishable food items and leave them in their mailboxes on Saturday, May 9 before their letter carrier arrives.

“The Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive shows the incredible generosity of Oklahomans as we work together to meet the growing need in our state,” said Stacy Dykstra, chief executive officer of the Regional Food Bank. “This would not be possible without the dedication of the letter carriers, volunteers and donors, and together, we can make a meaningful difference in the fight against hunger.”

Some of this year’s most needed items include peanut butter, canned tuna and chicken, canned fruits, cereal, oatmeal, soup and stew, pasta and canned sauce, beans and canned vegetables. Healthier food items are always needed, such as foods low in sodium, whole grains and fruit in 100% juice. Homemade items, perishable goods and items in a glass jar cannot be accepted.

To make a financial donation, text “StampOK” to 53-555. Every $1 donated helps to provide three meals to Oklahomans living with hunger.

The Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive is additionally sponsored by CSAA-AAA Insurance, OU Health, WEOKIE Foundation, Bank of Oklahoma and the Oklahoman.
