On August 13, 2026 at approximately 1:35 a.m., Ponca City Fire Department crews responded to a report of an apartment fire at Copper Ridge Apartments on W. Highland.
Upon arrival, crews found smoke and flames coming from an apartment. Firefighters immediately initiated fire suppression operations while simultaneously evacuating occupants from adjoining apartments to ensure their safety.
During the incident, ambulance personnel treated a juvenile who sustained burn injuries. The juvenile was subsequently transferred to Air Evac for transport to a Wichita-area hospital for further medical treatment.
Firefighters were able to contain the fire to the room of origin. The fire did not extend to other rooms within the apartment or to any adjacent apartments.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Ponca City Fire Marshal’s Office and the Ponca City Police Department. Additional information will be released as it becomes available and as the investigation allows.
The Ponca City Fire Department reminds residents that fires in multi-family housing can spread rapidly and emphasizes the importance of having working smoke alarms, knowing multiple ways out of a residence, and evacuating immediately when an alarm sounds.
