City moving forward with FTTP pilot project

Ponca City Now - July 2, 2015 12:39 pm

The City of Ponca City has established a large and dense fiber footprint within the corporate limits of the City to expand and enhance technology and communication efforts in the community.

The City has used this fiber infrastructure to install Wi-Fi communication not only for its purposes, but for the residents of the community and increase its broadband connection between municipal facilities, as well as provide industry and business customers the opportunity to have a fiber internet connection.

The City has asked the community to participate in an online survey to evaluate the possibility of extending fiber to individual homes or premises (FTTP) and the results were in the affirmative to move towards FTTP.

The next step in the evaluation of whether to deliver this service to the residents will be a FTTP pilot project. The pilot is anticipated to begin in August or September and to be completed within 60 to 90 days.

At this time there are no FTTP services being sold door to door by the City of Ponca City. Please remember City of Ponca City employees and/or contractors hired by the City of Ponca City can be identified, by uniform, vehicle and identification.

However, if you ever have a concern that someone may be misrepresenting themselves as associated with the City of Ponca City, by making comments such as “We are working with the City” or “We are doing this for the City”, please do not hesitate to contact the Ponca City Police Department immediately at 767-0370.
