We are moving into the next phase of session at the Capitol as Senate bills begin working their way th
This week, we reached the deadline to hear all Senate bills and Senate joint resolutions in subcommittees. From here, those measures advance to oversight committees as they continue through the process.
Over the next several weeks, we will be hearing Senate measures in our committees, asking questions, making changes when needed and deciding which proposals are ready to move forward. From there, those bills will come to the House floor for consideration.
Even with a packed schedule, I had the opportunity to visit with some of the people and industries that help shape Oklahoma’s culture and economy. This week, the Capitol hosted Film and Music Day, which brought together creatives from across the state who are helping tell Oklahoma’s story in new and meaningful ways.
While at the Capitol, I also had the chance to visit with Emma Valgora of Ponca City, who is currently serving as Miss Ponca City. She is a senior at the University of Central Oklahoma, studying musical theatre with additional studies in theatre and political science. I really enjoyed getting to visit with her and hear about what she is working toward. She is preparing to compete for Miss Oklahoma, and it is always great to see someone from Ponca City stepping onto that stage and representing our community.
I also appreciated the opportunity to meet with retired firefighters who traveled to the Capitol from across Oklahoma. These men and women have dedicated their careers to protecting their communities, often putting themselves in harm’s way to keep others safe. It was an honor to visit with them, hear their stories and thank them for their years of service to our state.
As always, staying connected with you is one of the most important parts of this job.
