The Oklahoma Statewide Charter School Board’s audit of Epic Charter Schools found no misappropriation of funds.

After a months-long audit, OSCBS voted to accept the findings of a forensic audit of Epic Charter Schools’ finances. The audit found no misappropriation of funds or willful wrongdoing, but did identify several areas of improvement for the school, according to a statement from Epic Charter Schools.

The audit conducted by the accounting and advisory firm Carr, Riggs & Ingram examined more than a year of Epic Charter School’s financial records, analyzed the school’s accounting and governance procedures, and conducted multiple interviews with current and former staff members. The audit focused on the Epic Charter School’s enrollment process, budgeting, payroll, financial reporting, internal controls, and financial decision-making process.

The board made 15 recommendations, most of which have already been implemented or are currently being implemented, according to Epic Charter Schools.

“We are grateful for the opportunity to address the issues outlined in this audit.” Epic spokesperson Rin Hatfield said. “While there is still more to do, we have come a long way in addressing the issues that led to last year’s difficult situation. The report provides a clear roadmap as we continue to secure the long-term success and stability of our school for the 31,000 students and families we serve.”
