Garfield Elementary to Distance Learning on Tuesday, back on 12 October

Mike Seals - September 27, 2020 10:49 pm

Due to the shortage of staff from isolation and close contact quarantines, Garfield Elementary students and staff will pivot to Distance Learning on Tuesday, September 29th and will return to Garfield on Monday, October 12th, 2020 for in-person instruction.

There is one elementary classroom at Garfield in which students are considered close contacts to a positive case, and all parents of these students have been notified. This classroom of quarantined students will pivot to Distance Learning on Monday, September 28. Other students at Garfield are not close contacts, but several staff members were close contacts to 2 positive Garfield cases. The district has arranged for staff coverage on Monday, September 28 so parents can make arrangements for childcare.

All staff members will provide instruction to their students through Google Classroom beginning Tuesday, September 29, and one classroom will begin Distance Learning due to quarantines on Monday, September 28. Garfield students, who are not in quarantine or isolation, will report to school on Monday, September 28, and Chromebooks will be sent home with students for Distance Learning.   All students will return to Garfield for in-person instruction on Monday, October 12, unless families are notified by Kay County Health Department that they are close contacts of a positive case not associated with the school.

Grab and Go Lunches will be available for all Garfield students from 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM beginning Tuesday, September 29 through Friday, October 9. Meals may be picked up in front of Garfield Elementary during this time frame.

The health and safety of our students, staff, and community are the top priority.   We are extremely sorry for the inconvenience to families during this global pandemic.   Thank you for your support and patience.
