CANDIDATE FILING BEGINS FOR BOARD OF EDUCATION

Candidates for the Board of Education in Kay County School Districts: Kildare, Ponca City, Blackwell, Newkirk, Peckham, Tonkawa and the Pioneer Technology Center will file Declarations of Candidacy beginning at 8 a.m. on Monday December 1, 2025.

Carol Leaming, Secretary of the Kay County Election Board, said Declaration of Candidacy forms must be completed and submitted to the Kay County Election Board no later than 5 p.m. Wednesday December 3, 2025 when filing period ends. Leaming reminds voters that Contest of Candidacy must be filed no later than Friday, December 5, 2025 and may only be filed by another candidate for that office. Contest against unopposed candidates’ may be filed by contacting the Kay County Election Board Office.

If more than two candidates file for the same Board of Education seat, a Primary Election will be held Tuesday, February 10, 2026. If one candidate receives more than 50% of the votes, that candidate will be declared the elected official. If no candidate receives more than 50% of the votes, the two candidates receiving the highest number of votes will vie for the office during the Board of Education General Election, Tuesday, April 7, 2026. If only two candidates file for the same Board of Education office, those two candidates’ names will appear on the General Election ballot in April.
