WASHINGTON (TNND) — The Trump administration is seeking to halt a federal judge’s order to distribute full November SNAP benefits during the ongoing U.S. government shutdown.
On Friday, the administration requested a federal appeals court to block U.S. District Judge John J. McConnell Jr.’s directive, which mandated the payments be made by the end of the day, according to the Associated Press.
The administration argued that the order would require spending beyond the available contingency fund.
Despite the legal maneuvering, some states have already begun disbursing the benefits.
In Wisconsin, Gov. Tony Evers’ spokesperson, Britt Cudaback, confirmed that some SNAP recipients received their full November payments overnight on Thursday. “We’ve received confirmation that payments went through, including members reporting they can now see their balances,” she said.
The situation has extended weeks of uncertainty for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, which supports approximately one in eight Americans, primarily those with lower incomes.
