A long-awaited Edmond sculpture park reaches a key milestone as it begins installing the centerpiece.

On Monday, The Uncommon Ground Sculpture Park, located at 2nd Street and Coltrane, says it is one step closer to a 2026 opening with the arrival and installation of The Route 66 Eagles Nest.

Atop the 64-foot rusted steel structure, a 360-degree platform will soon give visitors a unique vantage point of the surrounding area.

Semi trucks arrived to the cheers of park officials and community members. Each carried a pieces of the steel column that is five feet in diameter and will serve as the structure’s base.

Additional pieces will arrive in the coming weeks, with completion of the project expected in late October.

Visitors will be able to ascend a spiral staircase surrounding The Eagle’s Nest to a platform 37 feet off of the ground. A lower 15-foot platform will also be available.

“The Eagle’s Nest is inspired by natural habitats that still thrive around Arcadia Lake,” said The Eagle’s Nest architect, Rand Elliott. “By using rusted steel pipe and corten plate, we’re honoring Oklahoma’s industrial heritage while creating something entirely new. Our hope is that visitors will feel both the strength of the structure and the wonder of standing above the landscape, connecting with Oklahoma’s history and natural beauty from an eagle’s eye view.”

The 62-acre park will include more than 60 sculptures.

The $50 million project secured 75% of its funding, according to park officials.

It’s expected to open in late 2026.
