OKLAHOMA CITY –
Registration is now open for the 2026 Wrecords Music Festival, a 24-hour songwriting competition that challenges independent musicians to create an original song in just one day.
Artists 18 and older will receive a randomly assigned genre, lyric and instrument before having 24 hours to write and record an original track. Organizers say the festival is designed to connect Oklahoma musicians with industry professionals while showcasing local talent.
How the competition works
The competition begins at 11:59 p.m. Friday, July 17, when participants will receive their assigned genre, lyric and instrument through Instagram Live and email. Teams will have until 11:59 p.m. Saturday, July 18, to submit their completed songs.
Teams may include one to five members, and all participants must be at least 18 years old. Songs must be between two and five minutes long and cannot be written or planned before the competition begins.
Prizes for top finishers
The first-place winner will receive a $2,500 cash prize and a professionally produced music video.
Second place will receive $1,250, while the third-place team will receive $750. Organizers say select participants may also be offered live performance, gig and advertising opportunities.
‘At its core, Wrecords is all about the artists,’ co-creator Jordan Vinyard said. ‘We provide local musicians with a platform to perform, connect with new audiences and gain access to resources that can have a lasting impact on their careers.’
Festival continues to grow
The 2026 event marks the festival’s second year. Co-creator Reagan Elkins said last year’s inaugural competition exceeded expectations and brought together musicians from across Oklahoma.
‘Musicians from across Oklahoma submitted original songs and traveled to our awards show to celebrate together,’ Elkins said. ‘Friendships were formed, unforgettable memories were made and, most importantly, Oklahoma musicians were given a platform to share their creativity while earning money for their hard work.’
The Oklahoma Film + Music Office is sponsoring the event.
Registration deadline
Registration is open through Thursday, July 16.
The awards ceremony is scheduled for Saturday, July 25, at Legends Pubhouse & Venue in Chickasha, where select artists will perform before winners are announced.
