The Northern Oklahoma College Foundation, Inc. is pleased to announce the establishment of the Donald W. and Sharon K. Selvey Endowed Scholarship Fund.
Through the generous support of the Selvey family, the establishment of this permanently restricted endowed scholarship fund will provide NOC students an opportunity to complete their educational goals.
Selvey worked very long hours on the farm and various jobs while earning his Bachelors degree and teaching certification in Geology and his Masters in Adult Education from Oklahoma State University. He served as an adjunct professor at NOC and enjoyed working with Ron Appleman, Virgil and Rex Ackerson and Bob Matthiesen.
The Selvey’s established this scholarship as a legacy in honor of the Selvey family to financially assist deserving students at Northern Oklahoma College toward being successful in reaching their educational and professional goals.
They are members of the Northern Oklahoma College Foundation’s Central Hall Society. The Central Hall Society was established to recognize those alumni and friends who have remembered Northern Oklahoma College in their estate planning.
NOC President Diana Morris Watkins is excited for the scholarship opportunity.
“I loved getting to visit with the Selveys as they shared their desire to assist college students in achieving their goal of attaining a degree without taking out large loans to do so,” she said. “At Northern we are proud that over 80% of our students graduate with zero debt. It is through the generosity of donors like the Selveys that we can continue to make this possible.”
The recipient must be a full-time student and have a cumulative 2.5 Grade Point Average. Recipients will be selected by the NOC Scholarship Committee with preferences for incoming freshman who demonstrate financial need, scholarship aptitude, and achievement. The recipient may receive the award as a continuing sophomore student if maintaining a 2.5 Grade Point Average and temporarily restricted funds allow.
Those wishing to make a gift to the NOC Foundation fund or others can contact the Foundation office at 580.628.6292 or online at Give to NOC | Northern Oklahoma College or www.noc.edu/development/foundation/give-online/ .
