Young Softball Team Has Grit

Ponca City LadyCats Softball Coach Daniel Wood had this to say about his young team, “So far this season has been a learning experience. The girls have had to adjust to a new coaching staff and a new way of doing things and they have done an excellent job of that. Last year’s team graduated seven Seniors I believe so we only returned a few girls who saw significant playing time at the varsity level. Because of that we have had several underclassmen step up and do a great job. Everyday we are coming to the field with a desire to get better and to learn something. The wins and losses don’t really show the growth that has taken place over the last couple of months.

Just last night we gave up ten runs in one inning to Glenpool and could have just came in and accepted the run rule loss in the fourth inning but the girls fought and clawed and pushed the game to the end. We still came up short with a 11-8 loss but there was no quit and all determination to make up the deficit.

Tonight we play Enid, a team that we beat last week. It will be another opportunity to learn something and a chance to put a ‘W’ on the record. Also, start building a little momentum going into the rest of this week and into playoffs.”

Junior Varsity starts off at 5:30 tonight with Varsity after on the Ponca City field.
