Winter weather advisory extended to 5 p.m. Tuesday

UPDATE: Both lanes of Interstate 35 northbound at mile marker 229 have been opened after a jack-knifed tractor-trailer rig was righted.

The National Weather Service in Norman, Oklahoma, has extended today’s winter weather advisory to 5 p.m.

Residents in north central Oklahoma can expect widespread freezing rain and freezing drizzle today.

Affected counties include Grant, Kay, Garfield, Noble, Kingfisher, Logan, and Payne Counties. This advisory includes the cities of Medford, Pond Creek, Lamont, Wakita, Ponca City, Blackwell, Enid, Perry, Kingfisher, Hennessey, Okarche, Guthrie, and Stillwater.

Emergency crews are responding to several accidents including several on Interstate 35 in a two-mile area from U.S. Highway 60 north. The Interstate was closed at 9 a.m. because of a jackknifed tractor-trailer rig.
