This past weekend was the Oklahoma High School State Wrestling Championship in Oklahoma City, and Ponca City, Newkirk, Perry, Tonkawa and Blackwell all had wrestlers competing. Posted below are some of the results from local teams.
The Ponca City Wildcats had themselves a weekend as Spencer Schickram took home the State Title in the 138 lb class.
The Blackwell Maroons add another state champ to their wall of champions as Sr. Drake Barbee took home the State Title in the 195 lb weight class. Blackwell’s Caleb Odell took 4th place in the 106 lb class.
The Newkirk Tigers saw plenty of their wrestlers place. In their weight classes, Jarod Thompson took 3rd place, Austin Peri 4th place, and Dayton Cary who took 2nd place.
For the Tonkawa Buccaneers, Braydon Hampton, Simeon Shephard and Dallin Hacker lost in the consolation round.
The Perry Maroons not only saw 3 individual State Champs, but the wrestling team took first place overall. The individual State Champions include Ryan Smith, Dylan Avery and Reggie Redus. Kohle Owen and Teaguen were both State Runner-Ups. Brandon Speikers and Gabe Valencia took 3rd place in their weight classes, and Jace Burdick took 4th place in his class.
