Wildcat of the Week Kimberlyn Hamlin

Ponca City Now - November 3, 2023 6:36 am

The Heather Cannon Wildcat of the Week for the 2023-2024 school year was presented to Po-Hi senior Kimberlyn Hamlin.

Kimberlyn is a well-rounded student, from excelling in academics to being a student-athlete. She is on the academic team and will be two classes short of earning her associate’s degree when she graduates in May. She plays high school soccer and high school bowling, where they were regional champs in 2022 and 2023 and state champs in 2022. She also represents Ponca City in local and national bowling tournaments. She is also in the high school orchestra. She volunteers with the Special Olympics and is a peer tutor at the high school.

Her teacher Holly Ladner said, “Kimmie is such a pleasure to have in our Introduction to Exceptional Learners/Peer Tutor class. She comes in each day with a smile on her face and ready to help the students in our program. One thing that really stands out about Kimmie is her ability to connect with each student at their level. We joke in our class about how rough it is when Kimmie is gone because she is such a strong helper each day. She assists with our Career Program at a community job site. She has found a way to make the job a game, which encourages our students to be more active and excited about work. Through her actions, it is clear she is a friend and advocate for those with special needs. We feel lucky to have Kimmie in our class and I can’t think of anyone more deserving of the Wildcat of the Week Award.”

PCPS Superintendent Adam Leaming said, “Kimmie has consistently displayed a level of diligence and determination that is truly remarkable. Her dedication to her studies goes beyond mere grades; it is a testament to her intellectual curiosity and a passion for learning. Whether it’s mastering complex subjects, tackling challenging projects, or sharing her knowledge with her peers Kimmie embodies the spirit of a lifelong learner.”

“Not content with excelling solely in the classroom, Kimmie brings the same tenacity and enthusiasm to her extracurricular pursuits. Her involvement in Soccer, Bowling, Orchestra, Academic team and organizations not only showcases her leadership abilities but also her commitment to making a positive impact on our school community. She has a remarkable ability to balance her academic pursuits with a full and meaningful life beyond the classroom.”

“In a district with a wealth of talent, Kimmie stands out as a beacon of inspiration and a model student. Her dedication to personal growth, academic achievement, and active participation sets a high standard for her peers and encourages all of us to strive for excellence. As we celebrate Kimberlin’s outstanding achievements, let us remember that her success is a reflection of the limitless potential within each of us. She reminds us that with hard work, passion, and commitment, we can all achieve greatness.”
