Weather forecast for tonight

Ponca City residents have their eyes on the weather forecast for Friday night because of the Ponca City High School Homecoming.

Emergency Management Director Paula Cain is watching the latest developments and says storms are expected to develop in northwest Oklahoma this evening and track east across northern Oklahoma.

“The primary risk will be damaging wind, but some large hail is also possible,” Cain said.  “In addition, we will see a lot of lightning as storms pass through.  Don’t take chances with lightning; remember, if you can hear thunder, you can be struck by lightning.”

Caine said severe weather is not expected to arrive in Kay County until late tonight, around 11 p.m.

“By that time storms may have developed into a line with very strong damaging winds on the leading edge.  Although some supercells could develop, it should be in far northwest areas of the state,” she said.

Overnight rains should end before sunrise Saturday, leaving us with a beautiful weekend to enjoy, she said.  Additional rain is not likely until Tuesday night.
