Union Elementary Students Receive Message From London

Students in Mike Arnold’s class at Union Elementary have been reading novels by Sophia Anderson, including “The House With Chicken Legs” and “The Girl Who Speaks Bear.”

“I reached out to Mrs. Anderson on some activities she might have over her books and she responded the next day,” said Arnold. “After we had finished the second book, I emailed her to see if she had a post office box so we could send her a project my class was working on over the book and that is when I found out she lived in London, England.”

Arnold said his class completed the project over the novel and he mailed it to her right before Christmas.

Mr. Arnold and his class recently received a package from England.

Mrs. Anderson wrote a very lovely letter expressing her joy that my pupils enjoyed her novels and sent each student a postcard with a personal quote and a button from the book.

Arnold says he strives for his students to have a love for reading and that this put a smile on their faces that she took the time to personally respond to the class.”
