U.S. Court Of Appeals Issues Stays Of Execution For 2 Oklahoma Death Row Inmates

A partial stay of execution has been granted for two Oklahoma death row inmates, according to federal court documents.
The 10th Circuit of the U.S. Court of Appeals partially granted a motion to issue a stay of execution for John Grant and Julius Jones.
Grant was scheduled to be put to death on Thursday, and Jones was scheduled to be executed on Nov. 18.
Grant was denied clemency in October by the Oklahoma Pardon and Parole Board.
Jones’ clemency hearing was rescheduled to Nov. 1 by the board.
Three other death row inmates were a part of the appeal filed to the U.S. Court of Appeals but they were not granted a stay of execution.
The attorney general’s office said they plan to appeal the stay to the United States Supreme Court. The office released the following statement:
“We have received the Order of the Tenth Circuit granting a stay of the executions of John M. Grant and Julius D. Jones. We are appealing the decision to the United States Supreme Court. We are hopeful that the Supreme Court will vacate the stay so that justice can finally be served for the people of Oklahoma, including the families of the victims of these horrific crimes.”
