Team Radio Marketing Group - June 30, 2017 8:55 am

A San Antonio, Texas, man died after a collision Thursday morning on State Highway 33 just west of U.S. Highway 177 North, near Perkins in Payne County.

Peri Starkey, 71, was driving a 2013 Lexus RX350 which collided with the rear of a 2007 Freightliner semi driven by James Cherry, 69, of Desoto, Texas. Both vehicles were eastbound, with Starkey following behind Cherry. Cherry had slowed to turn right into a private drive when Starkey’s vehicle struck the semi.

Starkey was pinned about 30 minutes before being freed by the Perkins Fire Department. He was transported by Eagle Med to OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City, where he died.

Cherry had a medical episode after the collision and was transported by Lifenet to Stillwater Medical Center, where he was treated and released.

The accident occurred about 10:34 a.m. Thursday.
