Stillwater man dies in accident

A 23-year-old Stillwater man died in an accident early Sunday on State Highway 51 about four miles west of Stillwater in Payne County.

The accident occurred sometime before 7:15 a.m. Sunday.

Layne Michael Meriwether was pronounced dead at the scene with head, leg and internal injuries.

His vehicle was eastbound on SH 51 and departed the roadway to the right, rolled a quarter turn and struck a tree. He was pinned in the vehicle and extracted by the Stillwater Fire Department.

The accident remains under investigation.
