Stabbing, Shooting Prompts 2 Homicide Investigations in Stillwater

News 9 - April 24, 2023 6:22 am

Two homicide investigations in less than two weeks in Payne County. The latest happened early Sunday morning when a man was gunned down outside a Stillwater nightclub.

The Payne County Sheriff’s Office says the shooting happened outside the Blue Diamond Cabaret where an argument escalated in the parking lot.

“It turned physical and then deadly,” said Payne County Sheriff Joe Harper.

Sheriff Harper said the call came in around 2 a.m. on Sunday. When deputies responded, he said the victim, 21-year-old Marco Deleon, died outside the club from multiple gunshot wounds.

“We’re thinking right now, four to five shots were fired,” he said.

According to investigators, Deleon was from Texas but living here in Oklahoma while working in the oil field. Sheriff Harper said the people with the victim did not know the suspect, a man, who took off after the shooting with a group of people in a dually Chevy pickup truck. Now, investigators are trying to produce a better suspect description.

“We did seize the surveillance system and we’ll be applying for a warrant for that, take a look at that security footage and see if we can figure out who our suspect is,” said Sheriff Harper.

This homicide is the second in about a week. On April 14, Sheriff’s deputies assisted Stillwater Police in a deadly stabbing at the Kingston Trailer Park where 35-year-old Justin Springer died. Police arrested 41-year-old Michael Angus Bigheart for first-degree murder in that case. Sheriff Harper said two homicides in such a short time is unusual.

“Generally, the Payne County area is pretty quiet,” he said.

If you have any additional information on the stabbing, contact Stillwater Police. If you were at the Blue Diamond Cabaret Saturday night or have any information about the shooting, contact Investigator Brandon Myers with the sheriff’s office at 405-533-6816.
