St. Gregory’s University to close in Shawnee

SHAWNEE, Okla. (AP) – An Oklahoma university has announced that it will be shutting down at the end of the fall semester due to financial difficulties.

Students at St. Gregory’s University were informed of the closure at an emergency meeting on Wednesday.

The board of directors says the decision came after the school was denied a loan application to the U.S. Department of Agriculture. The board says it will continue to “work actively to resolve financial difficulties and to explore possible partnerships in order to move forward.”

The board also says teach-out agreements and transfer opportunities have begun. The school has scheduled an on-campus transfer fair for students for next week.

St. Gregory’s is a private liberal arts university that was established in 1875. It’s the only Catholic university in the state.
