‘Road Diet’ coming with South Avenue project

Ponca City Now - April 24, 2018 10:12 am

Big changes are coming to South Avenue. The current four-lane road will be resurfaced with a mill and overlay project, new sidewalks and then a “road diet,” which will make the road a three-lane road from First Street to Thirteenth Street.

It will be a one-lane road in each direction with a center turn lane to reduce congestion of turning traffic, Traffic Engineering Manager Mike Lane said. The contract was awarded to Evans and Associates and construction is scheduled to start in mid-May, lasting 30 calendar days. The $464,750 contract was approved and awarded in Monday night’s City Commission meeting.
