Richard Evans Appointed Police Chief of Ponca City

Richard Evans has been appointed as the new Police Chief for the City of Ponca City. Chief Evans is a lifelong Ponca City resident and started his career with the Ponca City Police Department in 1992. Chief Evans has served in all areas of the Department during his career, starting as a Patrol Officer, then serving as a Patrol Sergeant, a Patrol Lieutenant, the Detective Lieutenant, and also as Detective Captain. Evans has served as the Deputy Chief since 2019 and was appointed as the Interim Chief in February of 2024. During his career, Evans has coordinated numerous community programs, and overseen several grants. He was also the Jail Administrator, managed the Field Training Program, and served as the Tactical Team Commander.

His 32 years of experience in all facets of the Police Department, combined with his love for Ponca City, and his 5 years of experience as Deputy Chief makes him an outstanding leader for this Police Department.” said Mayor Homer Nicholson.
