The Red Cross is issuing steps to keep students safe as they head back to school.

They said it’s important to draw up an emergency plan for your household if things like weather-related disasters happen during the school day.

For younger kids, make sure they know their phone number, address and how to contact their parents at work.

They also remind students, don’t text or talk on the phone while walking.
