President Biden Approves Gov. Stitt’s Request For Additional Winter Storm Aid

(News9) – Governor Kevin Stitt said that President Joe Biden approved additional funding for Oklahoma in the wake of February’s historic winter storm.

This additional funding will offer aid to municipalities, counties and tribes in all 77 counties. The funding is set to be used for infrastructure repairs or other costs to respond to the winter storm.

The state also said that 16 counties were approved for homeowner, renter and business owner assistance in Canadian, Carter, Cherokee, Comanche, Cotton, Hughes, Jefferson, Le Flore, McIntosh, Oklahoma, Okmulgee, Osage, Pittsburg, Stephens, Tulsa, and Wagoner counties.

President Biden had approved a request for an emergency declaration due to the storms a week ago. This was limited to help state and city governments, where this expanded assistance will have a more individual scope.

“Our staff is also working to collect additional storm related emergency costs from cities, counties, tribes and state agencies so the Governor can ask for further assistance from the state,” Oklahoma Director of Emergency Management Mark Gower said.

Governor Stitt was in Washington D.C. this week to plead the state’s case for more federal funding.

“It was just kind of a storm of the century,” Stitt said Wednesday in an interview near the Capitol.
