Ponca City Man Pronounced Dead After Vehicle vs. Motorcycle Collision

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol reports that a fatality collision occurred at about 4:32 p.m. on Friday on US Highway 77, about 2 miles north of Newkirk, OK in Kay County.

The patrol said the accident involved a 2003 Honda CBR 600 motorcycle driven by Joshua Swartzell (SIC), 20, of Ponca City, OK. Swartzell was transported via ambulance to Ponca City Hospital. He was pronounced deceased at the hospital by hospital staff due to injuries sustained during collision.

The second vehicle involved was a 1996 Chevy pickup driven by Jeremy Cassady, 47, of Ponca City, OK. Cassady was not injured.

The Highway Patrol reports that the details leading to the collision, as well as the condition of both drivers at the time of the collision, are under investigation. Airbags were equipped in Cassady’s vehicle, but did not deploy. A helmet was in use by Swartzell.
