Ponca City man injured racing at airport

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol reports that 37 year old James Kice of Ponca City was injured in a one vehicle accident last night.

According to the OHP Report Kice was racing a 2014 Chevrolet Camaro at the Blackwell/Tonkawa airport around 10:30 last night.   The vehicle was racing down the runway southbound and failed to stop at the end of the runway and hit a berm. The vehicle then went into and end over end for an unknown number of times coming to rest on it’s wheels some 700 feet south of the runway.

Kice was admitted to Wesley Hospital in Wichita in stable condition with trunk internal and trunk external injuries.

According to Trooper Tyler Langston’s report seat belts were equipped and in use and the airbags were deployed.  The troopers report indicated the cause of the collision was alcohol and the drivers condition included an odor of alcohol.

The trooper was assisted by Kay County Sheriff Office, Tonkawa Fire Department, Blackwell Police Department, Tonkawa PD, and Blackwell FD.
