Ponca City man injured in accident near Blackwell

Ponca City resident William Beard, 62, was injured in a collision at 6:55 a.m. Friday.

The accident occurred 100 yards west of the intersection of State Highway 11 and Q Streeet, about 3 miles east of Blackwell.

Beard was driving a 2002 Ford Ranger pickup westbound on SH 11 and swerved to the left to avoid an eastbound vehicle that was turning north. The truck left the roadway to the south and rolled two full times, coming to rest on its wheels. The Oklahoma Highway Patrol reported Beard was pinned for about 20 minutes before being extricated by the Blackwell Fire Department bu use of the Hurst tools.

Beard was transported to Blackwell Regional Medical Center in Blackwell, OK, then transport to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, where he was admitted in critical condition for head, trunk internal, and leg injuries.
