Ponca City Library programs for December

Thursday, Dec. 1

Decorative Origami 3 to 5 p.m.

This is a come and go event for the entire family to enjoy in the Library Program Room.  All materials will be provided at this FREE event.

Saturday, Dec. 3

Annual Gingerbread House Workshop at 11 a.m. or at 2 p.m.

Children of all ages will decorate their very own gingerbread house provided with utensils from the Library. Each scheduled time is limited to 20 participants at each workshop. Pre-register at the reference desk, or call 767-0345 and ask for the reference desk. Don’t forget to fill out the Gingerbread House Entry Form to be entered in the contest on Friday, Dec. 9.

Tuesday, Dec. 6

Sewing Circle at the Ponca City Library at 2 p.m. or 6 p.m.

Learn to sew using a plastic canvas! This is a free event with 10-12 patron availability. Please be sure to sign up at the reference desk or call 767-0345 and ask for the reference desk. You can also register through our email at [email protected].

Wednesday, Dec. 7

Storytime and Craft 11 a.m.

Recommended ages 0 – 6 will enjoy a fun singing exercise, and then embark on an enchanting storybook read by the Children’s Librarian followed by a unique craft. If you have any questions regarding storytime, please call the Library at 767-0345

Thursday, Dec. 8

Holiday Decorative Origami 3 to 6 p.m.

The entire family will enjoy learning to make an origami wreath. This free come-and-go event takes place in the Library Program Room. All materials will be provided.

Friday, Dec. 9

  • Friends of the Library Open House 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Visit the Ponca City Library, enjoy some refreshments, and get to know the Friends of the Library.

  • Gingerbread House Contest and Meet Santa 3:30 to 5:30 p.m.

Children can bring in a gingerbread house they made from home or even the ones from the gingerbread house workshop. All applicants must fill out a gingerbread house entry form prior to this date! Please call 767-0345 for more information. Santa will be at the Library at 3:30 to take pictures and meet everyone!

Monday, Dec. 12

Chalkboard Craft 3:30 to 6 p.m.

All ages are welcome to learn to make a homemade gift or even a Christmas gift using chalkboard paint and other supplies at the Ponca City Library. Please bring any item you would like to have painted. This program will be held in the Library Program Room. Chalkboard paint, brushes, and other limited supplies provided at this come-and-go event.

Tuesday, Dec. 13

T-Shirt Craft 3:30 to 6 p.m.

All ages are welcome to learn to make a homemade gift or even a Christmas gift using an old T-shirt and other supplies at the Ponca City Library. If you plan to attend we ask that you please bring a T-shirt you won’t mind creating a unique craft with. This program will be held in the Library Program Room. Limited supplies will be provided at this a come-and-go event.

OHAI Depression & Mental Health Conference 10 a.m.

This conference will take place in the Library Board Room and provide patrons with tools to better manage diabetes based on the principles of empowerment and adult education. Please register for this class by signing up at the library reference desk or by calling 767-0345.

Brick Builder 3:30 p.m.

Children of all ages can enjoy a family fun event in the Library Program Room using their imagination to create something using plastic toy blocks. Call the Library at 767-0345 for more information.

Saturday, Dec. 17

OKC Zoo The Mitten 1 p.m.

Come see the OKC Zoo to discover the cool ways animals overcome the cold with stylish winter coats, built in blubber, and even antifreeze at the Library. Then enjoy a book called The Mitten presented by the OKC Zoo.

Wednesday, Dec. 21

  • Adult Winter Read Kickoff through March 1

Visit the Library to pick up an adult winter read card, and enroll in some great reading for the winter. When the card is returned, ages 18 and older will receive a free book bag and bookmarks as well as being entered in a drawing for a grand prize. For more information please call the Library at 767-0345. (Only 1 bag for first card returned per person.)

  • Children’s Winter Read Bingo Kickoff through Jan. 4

Children and Teens can pick up a bingo card at the Children’s Desk where details will be provided of the children’s winter read, or you can call 767-0345 for more information.
