Ponca City Energy Customers Warned of Scam

Ponca City Now - April 25, 2024 2:49 pm

Ponca City Energy customers have reported that they have received a call from someone stating they are with “Oklahoma Gas & Electric” and would be shutting off their electric. They proceed to ask the customer to call an 1-888 number. When you call the number you are asked to give a card number to pay the bill.
Utility Billing will make calls to customers with late bills or cut off notices on occasion. Please verify who is calling before you give any of your personal information out.
Below are a few suggestions:
1. If you receive a call about a late bill or cut off, verify that the person calling them represents the Ponca City Utility Authority (these scam callers claim they are with OG&E or “Oklahoma Gas and Electric”).
2. The City will not ask you to call an 888 or 800 number.
3. If you are in doubt of the validity of the call, hang up and dial 580-767-0311 to verify your utility bill account status.
