Pioneer Tech Foundation to roast Larry Murphy April 11

Ponca City Now - March 14, 2019 2:44 pm

The popular annual Pioneer Tech Foundation Roast has been scheduled for Thursday, April 11.

Mary Austin, PTC Foundation President, announces this year that Larry Murphy, president of Larry Murphy Insurance Agency, Inc., will be roasted.

The mission of the event is to raise money for scholarships. The fun occasion has a new home this year at The Summit, located in the City Central building at 400 E. Central in Ponca City. There will be a social/cash bar at 5:30 p.m., dinner at 6:30 p.m. and the roast at 7:15 p.m.

Single tickets are $50 and reserved tables of eight are $500.

Murphy is a hometown boy to Ponca City.  He’s  also nicknamed “Lucky Larry,” which is the theme for the roast affair. A graduate of Northern Oklahoma College and Central State University, now UCO, he started his agency from scratch in 1983. Murphy is the past chairman of the United Way, the Ponca City Medical Center and the Ponca City Development Authority. He is the current chairman of his church’s Board of Trustees, an advisory director for RCB Bank & Trust in Ponca City and a Chamber of Commerce Outstanding Citizen. Murphy has been proud to serve as the Fundraising Chairman for Hospice of North Central Oklahoma’s Golf Tournament the last 25 years.

“I’m honored to be added to the PTC Foundation’s illustrious list of past Roastees. It’s a ‘Resume Stuffer,’ for me. The programs Pioneer Tech provides are integral to training the future employees and managers of the Ponca City area,” Murphy said.

Murphy and his wife Nancy have been happily married for 46 years. They have three grown children: Kelly and his wife Kelly, Leslie and her husband Brian, and Bradley and his wife Alison. Murphy is also crazy about his granddaughters Madeline, Lauren and Emerson.

Although he and his family compare themselves to the Clark Griswold family, Murphy says he believes he is more of a Richard Gere look-alike. You be  the judge.
