Personal injury collision reported near Tonkawa

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol reported that a personal injury collision occurred at about 11:05 a.m. on Sunday at the intersection of US 177 and Hartford Avenue, about 3 miles north and 2 miles east of Tonkawa, in Kay County.

The patrol said the accident involved a 2018 Subaru Outback driven by Wu Lin, 35, of Murrieta, California. Lin was transported by Blackwell EMS to Dean McGee Eye Center in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, where he was admitted in fair condition with an eye injury.

The second vehicle involved was a 2006 Dodge Ram pickup driven by Marvin Reed, 62, of Arkansas City, Kansas. Reed was transported by Tonkawa EMS to Blackwell Hospital in Blackwell, Oklahoma, where he was treated and released.

A passenger in Reed’s vehicle, Lyllian Reed, 59, of Arkansas City, Kansas was transported by Blackwell EMS to Blackwell Hospital in Blackwell, Oklahoma, where she was treated and released.

A second passenger in Reed’s vehicle, a 15 year old female, of Blackwell, Oklahoma, was transported by Tonkawa EMS to Blackwell Hospital in Blackwell, Oklahoma, where she was treated and released.

A third passenger in Reed’s vehicle, a 6 year old male, of Blackwell, Oklahoma was transported by Tonkawa EMS to Blackwell Hospital in Blackwell, Oklahoma, where he was treated and released.

The Highway Patrol’s report stated that both vehicles were southbound on US-177. Lin’s vehicle was slowing to make left turn onto Hartford Avenue. Reed’s vehicle was following too closely, tried to pass on the left, and collided with Lin’s vehicle in the northbound lane. Both vehicles departed the roadway to the left and came to rest in a ditch. Seatbelts were equipped and in use by all but one of the passengers.
