PCPS Announces Wildcat of the Week: Andrew Mitchell

Mike Seals - April 11, 2021 11:22 pm

The Heather Cannon Wildcat of the Week #14 for the 2020-2021 School Year was presented this week to PO-HI Junior, Andrew Mitchell.

Superintendent Shelley Arrott said, “Andrew Mitchell is a hard-working junior who is driven, determined, and competes against himself to become his personal best in all he attempts. Andrew runs cross country, track, and fishes for the Po-Hi Club Team.”

“He balances these activities while putting forth focused effort to maintain high grades in all his classes. Andrew is a student who sets goals for himself and has disciplined himself to achieve these goals. His goal for this year is to maintain his grades and make it to state in track.”

“His grades are excellent, and his track coaches tell me he has really stepped up as leader on the track team. He is a mentor to all and if there is a need for someone to fill in for an event, Andrew is the go-to person of the coaches. He is a mid-distance runner, but he will fill in for any event and the coaches know they can count on him to challenge himself to put forth his very best effort even if it is not an event in which he participates.”

“According to everyone, Andrew is very coachable, and will monitor, adjust, and push himself to strive for continued improvement. In addition to diligently working to achieve his goals, I hear that Andrew never meets a stranger, is always willing to lend a helping hand, is a great friend, and treats everyone he encounters with great respect.”

“Andrew, I really enjoyed presenting the Wildcat of the Week Award to you today in your Strength and Conditioning class. It was evident your peers were excited to see you be named the Wildcat of the Week for Week 14 of this school year. I am not sure if you noticed but as I was discussing your accomplishments and the way you embrace challenges to set goals for yourself, everyone was listening intently.”

“I could tell by the look on everyone’s face and the nods of affirmation that I was describing you accurately. Stay focused, disciplined, and continue to uphold your strong work ethic and I know you will make it to state in track. Carry forward the characteristics of the Wildcat Way throughout your life and you will achieve ANY goal you set for yourself. I am proud of you for truly living the Wildcat Way, and I am proud to call you a Ponca City Wildcat. You represent your school and community with honor and dignity!”

The Wildcat of the Week receives a Wildcat of the Week T-shirt, a Wildcat window sticker, and a coupon for a delicious burger basket from Ground Round. The award is sponsored by TEAM Radio, Heather Cannon Honda, Tyndall Family Dentistry, Ground Round, and Legacy Signs.

The award is open to ANY Ponca City High School student. TEAM Radio makes the final selections and coordinates with school officials for presentations. Please use this link to nominate a high school student for Wildcat of the Week: https://www.poncacitynow.com//32875-2/
