OSU Overwhelmed With ‘Record’ Number of Students Seeking On-Campus Housing This Year

KOKH-25 - August 12, 2022 6:49 am

Oklahoma State University is just weeks away from starting its fall semester, but not every on-campus resident has a place to stay.

OSU officials say they are preparing for a “record number” of on-campus residents this semester. 4,000 first-year students are enrolled at OSU and plan to live in campus housing.

The university also said an “unprecedented” 1,300-plus returning students are seeking on-campus housing.

Early this week, 120 students did not have a dorm available to them. As of Thursday, that number had gone down to 43.

“OSU is securing temporary, complimentary accommodations for approximately 43 students until permanent housing is available,” school officials said in a statement. “The demand from returning students is a testament to the accommodations, programs and services our Residential Life team provides, and we are working through the process to address the needs of every student.”

OSU’s full statement on the housing shortage reads:

With more than 4,000 first-year students and an unprecedented 1,300-plus returning students seeking on-campus housing, OSU is securing temporary, complimentary accommodations for approximately 43 students until permanent housing is available.
