The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation has opened an investigation into allegations of misconduct within the Tulsa County Sheriff’s Office, the agency reported Monday.

Last month, the Tulsa County District Attorney’s Office requested OSBI’s investigative assistance into allegations of misconduct within the Tulsa County Sheriff’s Department.

Days later, Tulsa County District Attorney Steve Kunzweiler recused his office as prosecuting authority. The Oklahoma Attorney General then appointed Okmulgee County District Attorney O.R. Barris as prosecutor in this case.

Barris formally requested OSBI investigative assistance into the allegations. Friday, OSBI opened an investigation into the allegations.

When the investigation is completed, the Bureau will provide D.A. Barris a thorough, written report. Barris will determine if any violations of state laws occurred within the Tulsa County Sheriff’s Office.
