The Osage County Sheriff’s Office (OCSO) assisted the Osage Nation Police Department on Monday with escorting fallen Investigator Brian Herbert.

The escort started at the Chapman Black Funeral Home in Cleveland at 10 a.m. and traveled to the Trout Funeral Home in Ponca City.

Investigator Herbert passed away on Wednesday, April 17 while undergoing his mandatory yearly firearms qualification.

While preparing for the rifle assessment, the Osage Nation Police Department said Herbert experienced symptoms of discomfort, like heartburn and overheating.

The department said he immediately went to the shade to cool down, however, his condition quickly deteriorated.

Herbert experienced sudden chest pain and lost consciousness.

The department said his colleagues started CPR while waiting for medical assistance and he was rushed to the hospital, however, could not be revived.

Herbert served with the Osage Nation Police Department since 2007 and spent 28 years in law enforcement.
