One injured in accident on I-35 near Blackwell

BLACKWELL, OK — A 54-year-old man was injured in a collision shortly before 3 p.m. Sunday on Interstate 35, just south of mile marker 221, a mile south of Blackwell.

Blake Klawiter, of Genison, MI, was driving a 2005 Ford van and collided with a 2015 Freightliner semi driven by Ali Yussuf, 57, of Bartlett, TN. He was not injured.

Klawiter was transported by AirEvac to Wesley Hospital in Wichita, KS, where he was admitted in stable condition with trunk internal and leg injuries.

Both vehicles were northbound in I-35, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, with Klawiter’s car following  the semi. The Highway Patrol reported Klawiter struck the rear of the semi. He was pinned for approximately 20 minutes and was freed using the Jaws of Life tool by the Blackwell Fire Department.
