Oklahoma Gov. Declares State Of Emergency For 6 Counties After Weekend Storms

Ch. 6 - November 4, 2024 10:54 am

Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt has declared a state of emergency for six Oklahoma counties, with more than 200 structures damaged.

Gov. Stitt said teams have been in Garvin, Lincoln, Oklahoma, Stephens and Tulsa Counties to survey damage from the overnight storms.

The state said that Tulsa County Emergency Management has reported several power lines are down and a lightning strike led to a house fire.

The governor said there have been no deaths reported, but a few people from Oklahoma County went to the hospital.

There was also a trailer that overturned in the Choctaw area.

Gov. Stitt has declared emergencies in Cleveland, Garvin, Lincoln, McClain, Oklahoma and Stephens Counties.

In a news conference Sunday afternoon, the governor and the Oklahoma Department of Emergency Management say some homes have had significant damage.

The department says it is working with the National Weather Service and that preliminary reports show possible EF-3 damage near 89th and Sooner Road in Oklahoma City, EF-2 damage in Harrah, and EF-1 damage in Newcastle.

Leaders said with more storms possibly on the way, everyone needs to work together.

“Make sure you’re personally aware of what’s happening if you’re in the line of the damage and then reporting damage so we can kind of get that going with FEMA and get the assistance into our state that we need to,” said Gov. Stitt.

You can report damage by logging on to damage.ok.gov and filling out a survey there.
