Oklahoma agency says 572 will be state’s newest area code

The Oklahoma Corporation Commission says 572 will be a new area code for 19 central Oklahoma counties in the 405 area.

The change will include Oklahoma County and Oklahoma City. Starting in January 2021, callers will have to dial 10 digits that include the area code plus the seven-digit number.

Commission spokesman Matt Skinner said existing phone numbers will not be affected or changed, but callers will have to dial all 10 digits to make a phone call.
