OG&E Releases Top 5 Holiday Electrical Safety Tips For Safe Festive Decorations

KOKH - December 13, 2023 6:30 am

With many people decorating for the holidays, OG&E is sharing its Top 5 Holiday Electrical Safety Tips to help everyone celebrate safely.

OG&E’s Top 5 Holiday Electrical Safety Tips:

  • Check your lights for frayed cords, cracked sockets, or damaged bulbs.
  • Don’t overload circuits, outlets, or extension cords. Purchase extension cords that have a ground-fault circuit interrupter (GFCI) built into them.
  • Avoid using a metal ladder when hanging holiday lights. When stringing outdoor lights, use a dry wooden or fiberglass ladder and avoid overhead power lines.
  • Don’t use metal nails, tacks, or staples to hang lights. Use insulated clip hangers instead.
  • Use lights with the “UL” safety label. Use only indoor and outdoor lights with the UL (Underwriters Laboratories) safety-approved label. Be sure to only use outdoor-rated extension cords and lights when decorating outside.

You can find more ways to stay safe this holiday season on OG&E’s website.
