Jeremy McCain Oklahoma County Deputy

The Oklahoma County Sheriff’s Deputy involved in a car accident last week has passed away.

Deputy Jeremy McCain, who was also a resource officer at Oklahoma Christian School, was involved in an accident on March 10 when his patrol car hit a partially open security gate near the campus.

OCSO investigated and said the accident occurred with McCain’s vehicle traveling approximately 10 mph. Upon impact, the gate went through McCain’s front windshield and pinned him there.

Oklahoma County Sheriff Tommie Johnson III said last week that nobody was at fault for the accident.

“I’ve been to the scene myself,” Johnson said. “I’ve seen it. Sometimes bad things just happen and this is one of the things. Nobody’s at fault, there’s no negligence. It’s just an accident we wish we never had to speak about. The family wanted to stress, we wanted to stress, nobody is at fault.”

Johnson said last week that CT scans showed no serious brain injuries, and McCain’s condition was recently upgraded from critical to stable. Johnson also said the sheriff’s office was not sure of the extent of McCain’s injuries but did know he suffered from a broken neck.

In a Facebook post on Monday, the sheriff’s office shared the following statement:

It’s with a heavy heart that we have to share with you that Deputy Jeremy McCain has passed after a valiant fight for his life. Jeremy was critically hurt in an accident March 10th. He was a school resource officer and a loving single dad with an amazing sense of humor. He will be greatly missed by his family and by all of us at the Oklahoma County Sheriff’s Office. Thank you for your continued prayers and kind words.

Oklahoma County Commissioner has released a statement following the passing of Deputy McCain:

“I am deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Deputy McCain. It’s very tragic when we lose someone in the Oklahoma County family. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Sheriff, his staff, and the family of Deputy McCain.”

A GoFundMe has been set up in support of the family.
