Wilma Jean Wilkins
January 30, 1930 - July 3, 2025
Wilma Jean McDonald Wilkins, born January 9, 1930, passed July 3, 2025, at 95 years of age. Viewing will be Tuesday, July 8, from 2:00-6:00 pm, at Trout Funeral Home. Wilma’s celebration of life will be Wednesday, July 9, at 2:00 pm, in the chapel at Trout Funeral Home. She will then be laid to rest immediately following the service at Odd Fellows Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Trout Funeral Home & Crematory, 505 W. Grand Ave, Ponca City, OK, 74601.
Wilma was the second child of James Walter and Stella (Lear) McDonald, and graduated from Ponca City High School in 1948. She then attended Ponca City Business College while she worked part- time at the Packard dealership. Upon graduation, Wilma joined Continental Oil Company as an accountant.
On New Year’s Eve 1968, Wilma met Mr. Wendell Wilkins at the bowling alley. On Valentine’s Day 1969, Wendell showed up at Wilma’s door and asked her to marry him; Wilma told him he did not know her well enough and that she could take his ring and run off for all he knew! They married a few months later on May 24, 1969. Wilma and Wendell were avid golfers, bowlers, and travelers, they loved dancing together, and they loved their miniature schnauzers - Wickie, Willamena, Wags and Wendy.
Wilma was an avid sports fan, especially OSU. After Wendell passed June 30, 1999, Wilma started a “widow’s club”. The women would take turns planning their monthly outings, and it brought a lot of joy to Wilma to surprise her friends when it was her turn to plan the trip. One of her favorite experiences was when she picked up each lady in her minivan, took them to a winery, the casino, then ended the evening at Ody’s. She would say, “You should have seen all the looks when all these white-haired ladies came walking in! And you know what? We didn’t have to pay for our beer. We decided if they were buying, we’d just stay and have another!” After the passing of both of their husbands, Wilma also enjoyed traveling with her sister, Pat. Together, they researched their lineage, tracing the family tree from the East Coast in the early 1800s.
Wilma loved Ponca City and its history. At 3 months old, she attended the dedication of The Pioneer Woman with her mom. She was quite possibly the last living person who attended that dedication. Until her death, she kept the numbered portrait from the dedication hanging in her living room.
Wilma is survived by: her sister, Pat Setzkorn; her brother, Bill (Elaine) McDonald; step-grandchildren, Steve Balduff and Sherri Davis; son-in-law, Butch Hanna; and lots of nieces and nephews who added so much love to her life.
Wilma was preceded in death by: her husband, Wendell Wilkins; brother, Leland McDonald; brothers-in-law, George Skidmore and Gene Setzkorn; step-daughters, Kristi Hanna and Neva Balduff; son-in-law, Fred Balduff; step-grandchildren, Brian Hanna and Tiffany Davis; nephew, Jake Skidmore.
Casket bearers will be Billy McDonald, Jason Kienholz, Jerome Schneeberger, Coleton Edens, Caleb Edens, and Brennon Kienholz. Honorary casket bearers are Roy McDonald, Bronson McDonald, Kyle McDonald, and Frank McDonald.
