Verl Wayne Roberts “VW” age 78 from Lamont, Oklahoma, passed away May 14, 2025, at Stillwater Medical Hospital. Public viewing will be Tuesday, May 20th from 6-8 p.m. at Trout Funeral Home Tonkawa, Oklahoma. Celebration of life will be Wednesday, May 21st at 2 o'clock at the First Christian Church of Lamont, Oklahoma. Interment will follow at the Lamont Cemetery. VW was born on October 22,1946, to George and Ruth Roberts in Laverne, Oklahoma. VW was a graduate of Laverne High School. He was an aggressive fullback for the Tiger football team. VW enjoyed riding his Pinto horse on the weekends. As a classmate, VW was a lifetime friend.
On May 15, 1966--one day after his high school graduation, VW married his high school sweetheart and the love of his life--Conda Colleen “Connie” Miner. To this union, VW and Connie were blessed with three children: Melody Jo, Terry Wayne, and Travis Wayman.
VW and Connie began their life living in many places before they moved to Fairview, Oklahoma, where VW went to work for Rock Island as a welder's helper. He worked hard to become a welder for Rock Island. Eventually, the company changed its name to KOCH Sterling Hydrocarbon. Later, VW became self-employed as a welder. He contracted to KOCH in Medford, Oklahoma. VW eventually hired on full-time with KOCH. He worked himself up to construction superintendent/pipeline construction. VW built thousands of miles of pipeline through the years.
Through the years, VW and Connie were known to have horses, a pig operation, raised show sheep (Roberts Club Lambs), and cattle.
When VW was not at work, he would be welding on a project in the front yard. He helped rewrite the KOCH welding safety manual that is still being used today. He retired from Koch after thirty years of employment. VW went on to work for other companies including P.F. NET, Gulf South, and BoardWalk, before he retired from Saddle Butte Pipeline in 2016.
After retirement, VW and Connie became Oklahoma football season ticket holders. They spent Saturdays at home games and traveling to away games throughout the Big 12. VW purchased three classic cars. His pride and joy being a 1955 sun-kissed orange Nomad name Rusty Can, which won many car show awards throughout the years.
For fifty-nine years of marriage, VW and Connie faced many challenges and adventures; and love for one another always prevailed.
VW is survived by: his wife, Connie Roberts; children, Melody Schuelein and husband, Kirk, Terry Roberts and wife, Robin, and Travis Roberts and wife, Shannon; eleven grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren; sister and brother-in-law, David and Tammy Wilson, sister and brother-in-law, Tonya and John Willard; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Lonnie and Linda Miner. He is further survived by many nieces and nephews and other relatives. He was preceeded in death by his parents, George and Ruth Roberts; grandmother, Annie Stubbs; aunt, Helen Hockett; and father-in-law and mother-in-law A. L. (Casey) and Rachel Miner.
